PREFACE
The
New Education is the Science of the Antahkarana.

It is the true
science of the mind and the greatest of the three major sciences
that will dominate the esoteric world of thought in the Aquarian
Age. It is the fundamental science that will guide the students
and teachers of the New Education.
Along with its two
preparatory and subsidiary branch sciences - meditation and service
- the study of the Science of the Antahkarana will amply provide
the modern student a comprehensive grasp of the ideas upon which
the teaching of the New Education is based. The antahkarana is the
true science of occult bridge building or bridging in consciousness.
It is the major building technique employed by all seven Ray types
and is destined to dominate the curricula of the new educational
methods.
The new educational
ideology commences with the Science of the Antahkarana as its major
mode of instruction. Why is this the case? It is the case because
the sevenfold antahkarana itself represents the Path symbolically.
The true education is consequently the science of linking up the
integral parts of man, and also of linking him up in turn with his
immediate environment, and then with the greater whole in which
he has to play his part. My entire exegesis of the mind on the Science
of the Antahkarana with the accompanying Ray Words is but the practical
explanation of the truth of the occult aphorism that "before
a man can tread the Path he must become that Path itself."
This rainbow bridge
or pathway is that "way back" which we evolve out of ourselves;
it is that Way which we also find and tread.I have now laid the
ground for the psycho-scientific occult consideration of the Seven
Ray Words of Power which will dominate the future subjective thought
of the psychologists and educators of the Esoteric Schools.
The practical results
of the technique of the construction of the bridge coupled with
the effective utilization of the Ray Words of Power through the
New Education will induce a sense of wholeness and the ability to
see life whole. The scientific study of the antahkarana will foster
the sense of synthesis and therefore cultivate the group spirit,
develop the intuition, capacity for abstract thought, the ability
to enter the world of ideas, and train the higher spiritual will.
As an educational system and process, the construction of the antahkarana
deals with the methods of "bridging the gap" which exists
in man's consciousness between the three worlds of ordinary human
experience, and the higher levels of spiritual development - the
world of ideas, of intuitive perception, of spiritual insight and
understanding.
The different building
methods and Ray Words employed by the seven different types of human
beings lead to the overcoming of the limitations - physical and
psychological - that limit man's free expression of his innate divinity.
In the countless strands of light, woven by the aspirants, disciples
and initiates, we see humanities rainbow bridge gradually appearing.
On this rainbow path, humanity as a whole will eventually abstract
and withdraw itself from all contact with planetary matter and form
on earth. The building of the group antahkarana is therefore, the
great and ultimate planetary service that all true aspirants, disciples
and initiates can render.I shall write for you as one who sees the
ray patterns of the Words of Power emerging more clearly than you
because I can see based on my own self-initiated knowledge of the
archetypal ray forms, sacred numbers and geometric blueprints.
It is for you to
make accurate deduction, to draw intelligent inferences, and to
think along the lines indicated. I seek to have you steep yourselves
in the Science of the antahkarana so that my work with your minds
may be facilitated and the group building of the needed bridges
of light may go on apace, and thus grasp somewhat of the purpose
of the New Education.
FOREWORD
In this book I have
presented seven lines of occult instructions and facts concerning
the Science of the Antahkarana coupled with the Ray Words of Power
used in conjunction with the building of the "rainbow bridge"
along with some explanation of their significance and meanings.
These will enable the occult students in the world today to use
them in their bridge building process with greater fervor and with
greater understanding and, consequently, with greater success. It
has been my intention to give not only a theoretical but practical
insights into the seven different modes of activity and states of
being to which the initiates have attained through the correct exercise
of the corresponding Ray Word of Power.
At the same time,
having just stated the preceding let me also, in the same breath
say that you always need to remember in discussing the Ray Words
that words themselves but dim the meaning, and serve but as suggestions
and not as elucidations. I shall give you the numerological significances,
the esoteric concepts involved and key aspects of the occult meaning
of which these archaic word-forms are the embodiments.
It is impossible
for me to over emphasize the radical importance of this subject
to the modern student of the Seven Rays. The Ageless wisdom teaches
through the development of the antahkarana and its conscious, scientific
use, the initiate becomes aware of what transpires in the Council
Chamber of Shamballa; he can then efficiently begin to work as an
exponent of the Will aspect of divinity.
As we consider the
Science of the Antahkarana with the accompanying Words of Power,
you must bear carefully in mind that we are dealing entirely with
the Will aspect. The center of the initiate consciousness is in
the Will nature, and is no longer in the love nature. Activity and
love are still present in full measure, but the focus of the initiate's
attention is in the will aspect of divinity. Initiates beyond the
3rd degree are oriented to the Council Chamber at Shamballa and
the Way to the higher Evolution engrosses their attention, not the
life of the Ashram with which they are affiliated and the Way of
Initiation. Shamballa, the Secret Place where the will of God is
formulated for the immediate present and for the long range future
is the goal.
I have considered
the Ray Words of Power to invoke the Father in Heaven, the Monad
and have carried this study to a point into realms that are those
which make the initiate an integral part of monadic experience.
I have dealt definitely with initiate experience and certain high
stages of unfoldment which remain impossible to any human comprehension
outside that of Those who can function in the three worlds of the
Spiritual Triad - (atma-buddhi-manas).
Thinking that this
phase of the work is advanced, some well meaning students may initially
evidence a strong reaction against beginning this specific stage
of mind training. I remind them that the period covered by the conscious
building of the antahkarana is that from the final stages of the
Path of Probation to the third initiation. I strongly suggest therefore
that they consciously begin to work with more effectiveness and
knowingness in this important major phase of their lifework.
There is far too
much inertia demonstrated by disciples at this time, in this important
phase of group work. Candidly, my brothers, I know of no modern
individuals or groups that are at present working consciously, and
therefore effectively with the Ray Words of Power. I commend this
thought to your earnest appreciation.
Once firmly established
upon the Path, the sound and colors or the ray laws and geometric
truths become self-evident and individual application and verification
is made, leading the disciple inevitably to the Portal of Initiation.
You will note in your theoretical study of the Ray Words that they
are all definite assertions, based on definite knowledge leading
to definite conviction.
It is wise to advise
students that a Ray Word of Power will be impotent to most disciples
and they will not derive its true benefit because even when using
it correctly if they are not holding its geometrical and numerical
significance firmly in their consciousness.
When correctly
uttered, a Ray Word, according to the Tibetan, produces three effects:
When adequate stability
has been acquired, the disciple utters a Word of Power which serves
to carry the light still further on and up. When correctly uttered,
this Word produces three effects:
a. It keeps the
channel for the descending light of the Spiritual Triad clear
of all impediments.
b. It reaches
(by means of its vibratory activity) the center of power which
we call the Spiritual Triad, focused temporarily in the manasic
permanent atom, and evokes a response in the form of a thread
of descending triadal light.
c. It causes a
vibration throughout the antahkarana which in its turn evokes
response from the "rainbow bridge" as built by all other
disciples. Thus the work of constructing the racial antahkarana
is furthered.
The profound importance
of the Ray words can not be underestimated. In the many strands
of light, woven by the aspirants, disciples and initiates of the
world, we can see the group antahkarana gradually appearing - "that
bridge whereby humanity as a whole will be able to abstract itself
from matter and form".
This building of
the antahkarana is the great and ultimate service which all true
aspirants can render. The study of the science of the antahkarana
and use of the Ray Words involves much scientific experience in
the art of living, and only the highly trained human enquirer can
soundly and safely build the bridge between the monad and the fully
conscious soul on the physical plane.
I have sought
to carefully explain key aspects of the meaning of the Ray Words
whereby the mind, trained in meditation, and therefore soul-conscious,
can - through the construction of the antahkarana - reach heights
and stages of inclusiveness which will introduce to it certain aspects
of the so-called Universal Mind, the mind of Sanat Kumura.
What I have done
is to deal very briefly with the seven Ray Words whereby the disciple
or the initiate can, with increasing power, tune in on the mind
the KING, the Lord of the World, Sanat Kumara, the Youth of Endless
Summers, and the Fountainhead of the Will, (showing forth as Love)
of the Planetary Logos.
Consider, if you
will, the following correspondence. Just as the disciple can when
soul conscious, tune in on the mind of his Master, so the initiate,
upon a higher turn of the spiral, can register the thoughts of Sanat
Kumura. The initiate knows what it is to be a creative agent, using
the creative faculties of the mind and conforming increasingly (as
he creates) to the Plan of the Creator, the Lord of the World.
With purified endeavor
the task of the initiate is - to speak in symbols - mount nearer
to the sound of the Ray Word. The music of the word comes to him
note by note and in their rhythmic tone lies secret revelation.
From out of the environing ether strike the tonal notes upon his
ear unlike the tones that sound within the world terrestrial. When
the ray sound of the word strikes in colorful vibration upon the
inner sense the initiate knows a point has been achieved marking
a great transition because the inner hearing becomes "expanded
feeling" and gives place to sight and perfect comprehension.
Through an understanding
and knowledge of the "Words of Power" and by using the
potency of sound, the initiates work and are building the new world
with its distinctive culture and civilization. From the use of the
Ray Words and from a study of their tonal values, their numerological
indications and their inherent potency, the initiates have arrived
at vast magical achievements and creations, producing group activity
and the appearance of definite forms of expression upon the outer
plane.
After all, scientific
formulas have reduced the most intricate and abstruse discoveries
to a few signs and symbols. Just as modern sciences have evolved
a complete new terminology of their own during the past century
so the Science of the Antahkarana with the Ray Words of Power is
developing its own highly specialized vocabulary. In the meantime,
I have done the best I can with the words at my disposal.
The inner esoteric
science that will concern us in this book is that which deals with
conscious unfoldment of the divine recognitions (which is true awareness)
to the recognition of the Self, the Knower, the Beholder, the Observer.
Ever hold the thought in mind; the initiate has educated himself
in the process of using knowledge in reference to the conscious
self-aware Identity, or to the self-contained, self-initiating Individual.
The study of the
science of the antahkarana and the deliberate and conscious building
of the "rainbow bridge" in "lighted mental substance",
produces an extension in consciousness. This extension marks the
first definite attempt made upon the Path to bring in the monadic
influence with full awareness, and finally directly. When the individual
antahkarana has been successfully started, and there is even a tenuous
thread of living energy connecting the threefold personality and
the Spiritual Triad, then the inflow of the powerful monadic inspired
will-energy commences.
When an initiate
has mastered his corresponding Word of Power and has found his own
major note then he will sound the Ray Word with exactitude and thus
reach the desired end; his alignment will be perfect, the bodies
will be pure, the channel free from obstruction, and the higher
inspiration will be possible. This is the aim of the antahkarana
bridge building process and can be reached by the right scientific
use of the Ray Word, working on the "laws of the rays",
and studying color and sound. Each ray line has its specific forms
whereby those results under strict order, rule and law are achieved,
The Ray Words are a form of words, syllables and sounds rhythmically
arranged, so that when sounded certain vibrations are generated.
Ultimately, the
"sounders "of the Ray Words become the Word of Power itself.
This is a profoundly interesting and vast subject. Definite geometrical
forms, built up on the numerical aspect of the seven rays, are the
special property of those rays and embody their geometrical significance,
demonstrating their place in the system. It will be wise here for
the student to differentiate carefully in his mind between the words
of power and their sounds, for the ray words veils the thought or
intended idea or purpose, and the sounds makes it possible to manifest
in matter of some kind, on one or other of the seven planes. I ask
you to think carefully over what I have herein given, it contains
much. It may give those who wisely assimilate it the ray key they
seek for their next step on.
As the initiate
passes more and more along the path of the antahkarana, these ray
word-forms assume less and less importance, and only the concentrated
thought, based on understanding comprehension, can achieve the desired
results. It is into this somewhat new form of work that I am now
pioneering. Remember that you are not creating now upon the outer
plane.
The physical sound
or sounds of the Ray words are therefore of relatively no importance.
What does matter is the ability to feel the meaning of the Word
of Power as you silently utter it. It is the quality of your idea
which will bring the right effect, and not the way in which you
make a sound with the aid of your vocal cords and your mouth. It
is your concentrated thought behind the word form, the registered
feeling of the Ray Words, and the understanding of their significance
which are of importance; it is the ability to think, to feel and
silently to send out the call of quality to quality, of meaning
to meaning, of nature to nature, of form to spirit which matters,
remembering ever that that which is found upon the physical plane
is not a principle. The physical sound is not that which will lead
to a successful building of the antahkarana.
The following of
the process is, of course, another matter and your success is dependent
upon more than a theoretical grasp of process. It is dependent upon
your ability to live more definitely in the world of meaning, upon
your knowledge of your soul and personality rays and upon your capacity
to focus in your blended consciousness, and from that point - holding
the mind steady in the light - "utter the Word of Power which
will carry your created thread of light forward towards the Spiritual
Triad." You will note that in all these Ray Words of Power,
two clear thoughts emerge; first, that the goal of all activity
is the complete fusion of the three Aspects, and secondly, that
consciousness of this comes through the building and use of the
rainbow bridge between the Spiritual Triad and the Personality.
You will note that
these are all definite assertions, based on knowledge leading to
conviction. The following of the process is, of course, another
matter and your success is dependent upon more than a theoretical
grasp of process. It is dependent upon your ability to hold your
mind steady in the light and from that point, utter the Ray Word
which will carry your created thread of light forward towards the
Spiritual Triad.
You can see from
all the above that the conscious effective use of the Ray Words
in the antahkarana building constitutes a definitely planned process
of a basic scientific occult nature, and requires as careful following
as the procedure of any scientist in search of some advanced chemical
formula. The only difference, scientifically speaking, is that the
whole process is carried forward upon subjective levels and in the
realm of consciousness.
Forget not, my brothers,
I remind you; tthe hierarchical emphasis is today upon the states
of consciousness which follow the third initiation. Hence the giving
of these teachings upon the Science of the Antahkarana" coupled
with the magical Ray Words of Power. One point I would touch upon
here before taking up the analysis and commentary on the Science
of the Antahkarana with the accompanying seven Ray Words. The bridge
to be built is called the "rainbow bridge" because it
is composed of all the colors of the seven rays.
The antahkarana
is composed of seven strands of energy, or seven streams of force.
The initiate uses all the seven rays but his soul ray dominates,
and in his rainbow bridge the "colors of his rays are heard
vibrating; the note of his ray is seen."
THE
SCIENCE OF THE ANTAHKARANA
ANTAHKARANA
1+5+2+1+8+2+1+9+1+5+1 = 36 = 9.
The word ANTAHKARNA
is composed of 11 sounds that produce a [Reduced Alpha Number] value
of "9". The symbolism of the two "1's", of the
"11" sounds of the word connote in the initiate's mind
the Science of the Antahkarana which is fundamentally the Science
of the Path itself. The two "1's stand for the ingoing and
the outgoing energies that constitute two great stations of energy,
the 1st "1", for Power and the 2nd "1", for
Love.
The Science of
the Antahkarana deals with the entire incoming system of energy,
with the processes of usage and transformation and fusion. In the
second place it deals with the outgoing energies and their relationship
to the environment and is the basis of the science of the force
centers. The dual incoming and the outgoing energies are all directed
to the illumination of the individual and of humanity as a whole,
through the medium of the Hierarchy composed of individuals.
The two "1's"
placed one on top of the other indicate the dual expression of the
basic duality of manifestation - Life and Form, Spirit and Matter.
Placed side-by-side they indicate that personality or form and Monad
or Spirit is a related fact.
The two "1's",
therefore, stand for the dual nature of the antahkarana that unites
the individual "1", with the universal "1".
In the system of esoteric numerology number "11", is spoken
of as the "number of the initiate".
Let me explain
why this is the case. In numerical symbolism, it is (10+1=11) or
the Perfect 10 plus "1" that produces the magical number
of the initiate. Pictorially, we visualize the single straight line
or the vertical "1" as representing the figure of "man
standing "erect", with the "Perfect 10". I am
here speaking to you in symbols. There is, literally speaking, no
up or down or higher and lower, as you know, nor do any of the separative
actions as outlined by the occult sciences exist. Yet the truth
has to be thus presented owing to the mind consciousness of the
disciple.
In the two "1's",
therefore we see the symbolism of the "alignment" between
a recognized duality, the razor narrow edged path that lies between
the opposites - the antahkarana. The rainbow bridge must perforce
be used, because there is now no other medium of intercourse between
the "initiate and the One Whom he now knows to be himself".
He ascends in full consciousness into the sphere of monadic life
It is the "11", that is the true symbol of alignment,
involving as it does the sense of duality but indicating at the
same time the way through "the walls of limitation."
Ultimately we see
the "11", as the outstanding symbol of the individual
man with his monadic source. The "11", connotes in the
initiate's mind the words "I and my Father are one". The
Monad , or the "1", is dynamic will or purpose; it is
Life, the sustaining force, a "Lord of persevering and ceaseless
devotion to the pursuit of a seen and determined objective. The
number "11", therefore best stands for the antahkarana
itself, and is the symbol of the (the form aspect) and the power
(the Spirit aspect) which acts as a great creative agency and bridges
across all barriers and separative states of consciousness, thus
establishing complete unity. The significance of number "9",
the [RAN] value of antahkarana, the "number of initiation",
is profound.
The Old Commentary
says in this connection, when dealing with the Word of Power for
each ray:
"When
there is no shadow, for the Sun is clear, and no reflection for
the water is no more, then naught remains but the one who stands
with eyes directing life and form. The threefold shadow now is
one. The three of self exists no more. The higher three descends
and all the nine are one. Await the time."
Ever keep firmly
in mind; the goal of all the initiatory process is to admit mankind
into realization of and identification with the will or purpose
of Deity. In the "nine of initiation" we see the transmuting
of the nine forces into divine energies.
The symbolism of
the [AN] value of antahkarana, the"36", connects in our
minds not only the idea that the antahkarana is composed of three
cables but, further, that its construction process contains six
distinctive or successive stages. The number "36", also
contains the idea that the antahkarana is sixfold as each one of
its three major cables or strands are dual. These three major threads
are in reality six, if the creative thread is differentiated into
its component parts. The initiate is fully consciously aware of
this stream of energy in its various diversifications and can consciously
employ these energies in two ways: interiorly in self-unfoldment,
and in the service of the plan for humanity.
The Science
of the Antahkarana teaches "3", fundamental truths about
the thread:
1. The life
thread originates from the monad and is anchored in the heart during
incarnation. There is the seat of life.
2. The consciousness thread originates from the soul. It is seated
in the head. There is the seat of consciousness.
3. The thread of creative activity is constructed by the human being.
It is grounded, when constructed, in the throat.
The threefold
thread connects:
a. The
monad, the soul and the personality, linking all three major aspects
and unifying all seven principles.
b. The triple personality and its environment in the three lower
worlds
c. The consciously creative man and the world of ideas.
The three words
of the complete phrase connote many various triplicities in the
initiate consciousness but chief among them are the threefold thread
or "cables" of the rainbow bridge and that the goal of
all activity is the complete fusion of the three aspects of the
monad: or, monad-soul-personality.
The three monadic
centers are distinguished by three different types of energy:
1. Monadic - dynamic
energy - electric impulse - pure fire.
2. Egoic - magnetic energy - radiatory impulse - solar fire.
3. Personal - individual energy - rotary impulse - fire by friction.
The "3"
symbolizes the three aspects of mind, the "three keys"
which permit the initiate to delve into the knowledge, wisdom and
reason of the Universal Mind. It stands for the "triple light"
of the Spiritual Triad, and indicates that consciousness of the
fusion of the three aspects comes through the building and use of
three factors:
1.The bridge or
antahkarana.
2. between the Spiritual Triad.
3. and the Personality.
In the initiate's
mind, the three words refer to the simultaneous preservation of
three lines of thought:
1. Awareness of
the blended personality and soul.
2. Awareness of the point of focused tension.
3. Awareness of the 1st Ray energy in its will aspect.
The three words
also signify that the initiate of higher degree utilizes the potencies
of "three worlds" to implement the purpose of Sanat Kumara:
1. The world of
meaning.
2. The world of causes.
3. The world of being.
The three words
also signify the success of the three stages of the process employed
in the "miracle of crossing" via the rainbow bridge or
antahkarana:
1. Penetration
2. Polarization
3. Precipitation
Finally, the three
words assert the fact that the Universal Mind, the higher mind and
the lower concrete mind are blended through the projected antahkarana.
The significance of the "6" in the "36", is
connected with the six steps or methods of building the Antahkarana:
The six
steps or methods of building the Antahkarana.
1. Intention.
a.The achieving
of right orientation Towards the soul Towards the Spiritual Triad.
b.A mental understanding
of the work to be done is necessary.
c.A ring-pass-not
of consciously gathered energies must be created and held in a
state of tension.
d. A period of
clear thinking anent this process of Intention must be attempted.
e. Then follows
the preservation of a point of tension.
2. Visualization.
a.The use of the
creative imagination or the picture-making faculty.
b.Response to
intuitional or buddhic impression.
c.Preoccupation
with two energies: The energy held at a point of tension within
the previously created ring-pass-not. The active picture-forming
energy brought into action by the mind of the builder.
3. Projection.
a.The calling
in of the will through the method appropriate to the Ray of the
disciple, the soul ray.
b.The simultaneous
preservation of three lines of thought: Awareness of the blended
personality and soul. Awareness of the point of focused tension.
Awareness of the Ray energy in its will aspect.
c. The use of
one or other of the seven Ray methods of projection, according
to the Ray of the disciple.
d.The use of
a Word of Power.
4. Invocation
and Evocation.
a. The blended
soul and personality are now invocative, and their united intention
is expressed in the previous three stages.
b.Then a response
comes from the Spiritual Triad, which that intention, propelled
by an act of will from a point of tension has evoked.
5. Stabilization.
This is brought
about by long patient use of the fourprevious processes and followed
by a conscious use of the antahkarana.
6. Resurrection
and Ascension.
This is the rising
up of the consciousness out of soul and personality limitations
(from the angle of the Monad) and its passing into that of the Spiritual

COMMENTARY
ON THE 7 RAY WORDS THE SEVEN WORDS OF POWER
Ray One
- "I assert the fact". Number Value: 1
Ray Two
- "I see the greatest light" Number Value: 6
Ray three
- "Purpose itself am I" Number Value: 6
Ray Four
- "Two merge with One" Number Value: 6
Ray Five
- "Three Minds unite" Number Value: 4
Ray Six
- "The highest Light controls" Number Value: 2
Ray Seven
- "The highest and the lowest meet". Number Value: 1
Carefully note how
the 1st and the 7th rays both equal the number value of "1".
The remaining five Ray Words have number values which relate them
to the feminine 2-4-6 consciousness ray line. Reflect on this. The
1st and 7th ray are masculine polar opposites and represent the
two units spirit, the monad, and matter, or the form.
